04/11/2019
The absolute team at Club Tennis Tarragona has not managed to stay in the highest category of national tennis. The team led by Àlex López fell defeated to Cercle Sabadellès due to a tight result in the final round by permanence in a Spanish Team Championship that crowned the RC Tennis Barcelona as the new flagship national champion.
After the success achieved in the previous season, where he was proclaimed champion of Spain in the 2nd category - for the first time in his history - the absolute team of the Club Tennis Tarragona could not repeat the milestone and went down the category Spanish Team Championship held in Murcia from October 31 to November 2.
The competition, which has been played under a knockout system - final, semifinals and final games and eliminatory to the best of 7 games with 5 singles and 2 doubles - has had CT Barcino, RC Tennis Barcelona, CT Valencia and Real Murcia Club of Tennis 1919 as heads of series. The Tarragona team is the only team in Tarragona who fought for the title to the highest national category. Players of the likes of Pablo Andújar, Guillermo Garcia López or Roberto Carballés have taken part in this unmissable event of Spanish tennis.
This year the team has been formed by Pol Toledo, Sergio Gutiérrez, Jordi Muñoz, Jordi Muñoz, Sergio Pérez and Pol Del Castillo and faced Real Club Tennis Barcelona in the 1st round (0/5), the CT Barcino for the fight for permanence (1/4) and the Cercle Sabadellès in the final round by the descent (3/4).
An edition in which the Real Murcia Tennis Club 1919, defender of the title, has commemorated its centenary hosting the 50th edition of the Spanish Championship of Tennis by teams of first category men. An edition that could not but revalidate the success of last season after falling to the semifinals against CT Chamartin.
The only teams that have reached the milestone continue to be 5

The RCT Barcelona-1899, the current champion of the current edition, leads the list with 34 national titles, followed by CT Barcino with 8, CT Valencia and CT Chamartín both with 3 and CT La Salud and RMCT 1919 with one single title For its part, the Tarragona Tennis Club will try to return to the elite of national tennis next season.
