INFANTIL A MAKES HISTORY IN THE CHAMPIONSHIP OF SPAIN

After 34 years, the Children's team of the Tarragona Tennis Club manages to reach a national final

12/08/2024

The 2023-2024 Club Tennis Tarragona Children's A team will be remembered for many years to come for an almost perfect season, in which they managed to make history.

And it is that, after winning the Catalan Team Championship and taking home the Catalan League trophy, our young players were presented with a challenge that excites any sports lover: the Championship of Spain.

What is probably the most important team competition at national level, held this year at the Club Tennis de la Salut (Barcelona), gathered the best tennis players in the children's category last week.

The concentration of our players began last Sunday, August 4, where they expected an opponent in the first round. If they won the first match, they would face the final phase of the tournament. If they lose, they would contest the consolation phase.

Well, the first opponent of our future tennis players was none other than the Real Club de Polo de Barcelona, which they beat by a resounding 4-0, qualifying for the final draw of the tournament and postulating as one of the strong candidates for the title.

In the round of 16, Club de Tenis Campeador (Burgos) was waiting, with the desire to surprise and manage to position itself among the top 8 in the country. However, the Tarragona Tennis Club did not give an option, and again, prevailed over its rival by 4-0.

In the quarter-finals, our Children's team would face the Conde Jackson Tennis Club (Gran Canaria), although the result would be identical to the two previous rounds: 4-0. Therefore, the first 3 rounds contested by the CTT ended with a lot of victories.

Already placed among the top 4 in the country, our players crossed paths with Real Club Tennis Barcelona, the same opponent they had in the final of the Catalan Championship, and where the Cala Romana team celebrated the title afterwards to win the doubles (3-2). On this occasion, both teams were even more prepared and with an even more tempting prize: qualifying for the final of the Spanish Championship.

A tie that was not at all simple, and that was decided in the small details. The first match was won by Barcelona, and now the CTT had to row against the tide. Epically and to the joy of our players, the comeback was possible, managing to overcome again in the same season, in this case, without the need to go to the doubles: 3-1.

The Children's A team of the Tarragona Tennis Club had already managed to equal that feat that occurred no less than... 34 years ago! When the Infantil del CTT managed to reach the national final.

Well, the goal of our tennis players was none other than to overcome this challenge and proclaim themselves the best in the country. The last stone on the road was Club de Tenis el Ejido (Almería), a team that had surprised and sneaked into the grand final.

The singles rounds were tied 2-2, and it was the turn of the doubles. It was a match that could have been won by anyone, but it finally went in favor of the Andalusians, in the 'Super Tie-Break'.

From here, we want to congratulate El Ejido Tennis Club for the Spanish Championship, and we cannot hide the great pride we feel in our little players, who have managed to make history for the Tarragona Tennis Club.

34 years later, the Children's team has reached a national final, showing that in the city of Tarragona there is plenty of talent to compete against anyone. This is simply history, and we know full well that the future is yours.

Jinhong Yang, Alejandro Marco, Pol Mas, Marc Castellví and Iván Villas have been the protagonists of this beautiful story. And Pedro Gutiérrez, CTT Tennis coach, has been the captain who has guided the team, without you it would not have been possible.

Little ones, we hope you have a great holiday, and that you can be proud of everything you've done. We've had an unforgettable week, and it's all thanks to you, heroes.
