The Ultra Trail of Tarragona is an international event with renowned athletes

The Ultra Trail of Tarragona has already started the final countdown to its celebration, from 5 to 7 March, with the confirmation of some renowned entrants from the national and international scene which will be the first trail race that will be held in Catalonia in 2021.

The event organized by the Tarragona Tennis Club and Outdoor Race World Tour will be held in four distances: 12 and 23 kilometers on Sunday and 50 and 100 miles on Saturday and Friday - the only one for which there are still 10 numbers available; all finishers in Tarragona will get points for the Montblanc Ultra Trail, the most prestigious event on the world circuit.

Outstanding among the participants is Jan Margarit, ranked among the top 10 in the world elite and with index 912 of the International Trail Running Association (ITRA), who will participate in the Tarragona Half Trail, 23 kilometers. The 24-year-old Matadepera runner has important victories, including the 36k of the Salomon Ultrapirineu and the 21k of the Skyrace Comapedrosa. In Tarragona he will participate as an athlete in La Sportiva Spain, a reference team in trail running and which recently announced his signing.

In this same distance the presence of Sara Alonso stands out. The recent absolute Spanish champion is already a confirmed promise in national trail running. He has a second place in the Canfranc test and his record also includes the under-23 record at Behobia-San Sebastián. She is an athlete equipped by Salomon Spain.

Also at 23 km. Víctor del Águila will compete. The 25-year-old athlete, born in Porrera, is part of the official Buff team. It stands out in its history as the sixth place in the Salomon Ultra Pyrenees of 2019 and this year is facing an important season in terms of its international projection.

The organization in this edition supports some of the leading runners in the territory who hoped to participate in the test by adding it to their calendar, the Mini Trail of the Ring, 12 kilometers, one of the best known names will be the Reus Núria Gil. She was champion of Catalonia 2020 of the Federation of Hiking Entities of Catalonia in Rasos-Berga; he also has a third place in the emblematic Olla de Núria 2019 and a fourth place in the 2019 Nose Race, running the 10 kilometers in 34:21 minutes.

In the men's race at the same distance, another 'local legend' stands out, in this case Ivan Calvo. The 25-year-old Montblanc athlete already knows what it's like to get on the podium in Tarragona. He was second in 2019 in the Ultra test. He also has victories in the short tests of the March of the Oaks, Vilaverd Skyrace and Trail Molieres, among others.
