The absolute of tennis seeks to remain at first

The Tarragona Tennis Club will fight to stay in the elite of Spanish tennis

The Tarragona Tennis Club starts this Thursday in Murcia on its way to the Spanish Championship for Teams of the 1st Men's category with the aim of reaching the maximum category of national tennis.

After the success of the previous season where he was proclaimed champion of Spain of 2nd category for the first time in his history - he won the second place in the second category in the editions of 2013 and 2014 - the absolute masculine team will take place from October 31 to November 2 a new edition for the fight for the Spanish tennis throne.

The team that this year will be formed by Sergio Gutierrez, Pol Toledo, David Jordà, Jordi Muñoz, Sergio Pérez and Pablo Martín, and led by Àlex López Moron, will try to achieve the goal set: permanence. The Tarragona team is the only team in Tarragona that competes to the highest national category. Players like Marc López, Feliciano López, Fernnado Verdasco, Pablo Andújar, Tommy Robredo and Marcel Granollers will be part of this unforgettable event for Spanish tennis.

An edition in which the Real Murcia Tennis Club 1919, an institution that commemorates its centenary this year and which is the current defender of the title, will host the 50th Spanish Tennis Championship for Men's First-class Teams. An event that will feature the presence of the eight best national clubs, among which is the Tarragona Tennis Club. The other teams that will participate in the competition will be the CT Barcino, the RMCT 1919, the RCT Barcelona-1899, the Valencia Tennis Club, Cercle Sabadellés 1856, the Chamartín Tennis Club and the Real Club de Polo de Barcelona.

The competition will be played under a knockout system - final games, semifinals and final - with 4 teams of series leaders for the ranking of their players. Each eliminatory will be resolved to the best of 7 matches - 5 of individuals and 2 of doubles -. The winning team of the final will become the new champion of Absolute Spain and the last one will fall into the second category automatically and the penultimate will have to play an eliminatory against the second classified of the second division of Spanish tennis.

Only 5 have reached the milestone

So far, only five clubs have been able to win any edition of the Spanish Championship. The RCT Barcelona-1899 leads the list with 33 national titles, followed by CT Barcino with 8, CT Valencia and CT Chamartín both with 3 and CT La Salud and RMCT 1919 with a single title.
